How can I top up my keypad meter?

How often do we call to read your keypad meter?
At Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks), we read all electricity meter every three months. Our meter readers may visit your property between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. If you are not at home when we call, we will leave you a card advising you when we will next be in your area.
We pass these readings on to your electricity supplier. If you are a pay-as-you-go customer, this information is used to update your account. Some electricity suppliers will ask you to submit meter readings in between our visits. You can do this directly with them or with us. We will still call at your home or business even if you do give regular readings to your supplier.

How can I get a Keypad installed?

My keypad top up card is from NIE Energy, how can I find out who my supplier is?
If your top-up card states NIE energy then your supplier is Power NI .

Why does my keypad meter have to be read?
We need to check every customer's meter even if you've a keypad meter and send readings to your electricity supplier (who is my supplier?).
We want to ensure the equipment's safe to use and we want to check meters are giving us accurate, up to date information which helps customers easily switch electricity suppliers.

What does a meter read involve and how long will it take?
If your electricity meter is inside your property or behind closed gates, our meter reader will contact you to ask for access. The meter reader will only need access to your meter for a couple of minutes to take the reading.

Yes, you can provide your own meter reading by calling us on 03456 093030 or you can submit your reading online.

Can I book an appointment for the meter reader to call at my house?
Our metering team can make an appointment for those customers who are vulnerable, need more time or would like to have someone with them while we read the meter.
We are not able to offer general metering appointments. If you are not at home when the meter reader calls, they will leave a card advising you if they will be back in the area. Alternatively you can submit your own reading online or by phone.

I am a tenant; do I still need to have my keypad or pay-as-you-go meter read?
If you have a keypad meter installed in the property, then yes, you will need to have your meter read or provide a meter reading.

You will receive the amount of electricity you have paid for and the reading will have no effect on you the customer.

What will the meter information/reading be used for?
We will pass your meter read to your electricity supplier who will issue your bill. If you have a pay-as-you-go or keypad meter the information will be used to keep your account up to date.

Will there be a charge for having my keypad meter read?
No. This cost will be rolled into the network charges.
